Quick Write with Image
AUTHORS NOTES:
Written in 2019. Did a quick write for school where we had to write the story that a picture told us. it was pretty fun.
Pictures don't like to show up here for some reason, so just imagine two girls sitting on an old truck in the countryside by a lake and a rain storm is blowing in.
Chelsea grabbed her backpack and car keys and headed downstairs. Her parents were sitting at the breakfast table. Her dad had a newspaper in his hands and a coffee cup on the table. Her mom said a brief “good morning” before getting up and heading out the door. She grabbed a piece of bacon and toast, then tossed a bye over her shoulder at her dad. He just mumbled a grunt and turned the page. She walked out to her car and drove to school. She entered the front doors of the school and was bombarded with “hello”s and “did you know?”s, making her head spin. She met Scarlett at her locker and greeted her. Something didn't feel right. Chelsea's stomach was in knots. She dismissed it, thinking that it was nothing. She went to her first class and felt not able to pay attention to the lesson. After that period, she had a thought. She raced to find Scarlett and eventually found her by the cafeteria. Chelsea grabbed her hand and pulled her, running down the hall and out the front doors to her car. Scarlett kept screaming at her, asking what they were doing. Chelsea stopped and looked her in the eyes and said she wanted to get out of there, fast. They drove to the nearest coffee shop and loaded up on snacks and coffee. Then Chelsea drove to an area between the mountains. There was a lake and some neighboring houses nearby. Chelsea parked her car along the gravel road and fence that surrounded the lake. Chelsea jumped out and opened the tailgate. She held the snacks and coffee in her hand as she climbed up on top of the roof of the car. Scarlett sat on the end of the hood with her feet still dangling above the tailgate. A storm started brewing as the fog began to lower in the sky. The scent of rain was pure from their location. The wind picked up. Scarlett quietly asked why Chelsea had wanted to get out of school. Chelsea replied that she didn't feel like herself in the crowd. She wanted to escape to someplace that didn't care who you were or what you were doing. It was a place to offer natural love and beauty. You just had to gaze at it to get comfort back. Chelsea realized she wasn't comfortable with her ignorant parents or social status at school. She wanted to not have to worry about what everyone thought about her. She just needed some space from her life and time to think about how she could change it. Then they both felt droplets of water hit their faces. They smiled at each other and sat in the cleansing rain.
