Me as a Writer

 AUTHORS NOTE;

        Written in 2022. This is an inquiry about my view of my writing career.

I believe that my love of writing started with my love of reading. Once I realized how transforming reading various fiction children’s books was, I was fascinated. The way you could just jump into someone else’s world and live through them, dug its way to my heart and stuck. I was addicted at an early age. Of course, as best as any young child can do, I started “stories” that were silly and not serious. It wasn’t until later that I focused on it.

Naturally, through my education path, I was taught and guided through the process of academic writing. I found that it came natural to me to organize thoughts, opinions, and facts. At one point, I even helped my brother, who has special needs, revise his college essays. I always excelled in that area. As I continued revealing my liking for writing and reading, I started wanting to try and experiment with writing fiction of my own more seriously. I dabbled in what I thought creative writing was: a novel, because it was all I knew at the time. I was encouraged to take creative writing-based classes and some other writing classes. As I started learning all the aspects that creative writing had to offer, I started falling in love with it. I loved how I could express myself without stating anything directly and how I could make up crazy scenarios, good or bad. I especially loved that it was something that I could call my own and that I was proud of.

Today, I don’t write very often, it’s mostly just a small hobby for me, but occasionally I will feel emotions that I need to put into something that only I would understand the actual event or meaning, almost like a secret code for that moment. I want to write more, but don’t usually have time for it very often. I like taking creative writing classes because it gives me that time to write and feel those exhilarating moments when I create something that I am proud of, even if it isn’t the “best seller” type. I have entered some writing contests but haven’t won any awards. I would personally say that I am not a very experienced writer, but outside readers have told me that I am pretty good at it. I don’t intend to be a writer for a living, but I think it would be a cool profession if a change in my life occurred that leads me to do that. If I did become a full-time writer, I would focus on writing a horror novel. I love the twisted, unusual possibilities that make the ending unexpected. I could also see myself writing mysteries too.
